Youth and Young Families Position – Updates
The Executive along with M & P are carefully considering all the suggestions that came out of the Town Hall meeting. We will be meeting again next week and will report back to you as soon as we have some options for going forward with this position. It is imperative that we take the necessary time to discern what we want this role to look like going forward. We appreciate all your input and your patience.
In the meantime, we have filled some of the required roles with volunteers. We are grateful for all that have stepped forward and appreciate their time and efforts. We do still need some assistance, so if you have a passion for young people and would like to help out, please contact Helga Kennedy: hckennedy57@gmail.com
Children’s Ministry
Theme Conversation with children – Sunday morning theme conversation with children during the 10:00 am service. Rev. Heather will be leading this time with our young people for the time being and welcomes others to share this role. If you feel called to share your gifts in this way—even just occasionally by sharing a short children’s story or offering a lesson—she would love to hear from you. It’s a meaningful and joy-filled opportunity to connect with our young people! Please contact Rev. Heather: heather@norvalunited.ca if you’d like to help.
Sunday Children’s Program Coordinator – We are actively looking for someone to look after the Sunday Children’s Program. The responsibilities would include coordinating the youth volunteers who look after the nursery age children, providing a story, possibly a song and a craft. Time commitment would be approximately 3 hours a week. There is a curriculum available which has everything needed for a Sunday morning. We do have plans in place to ensure that our program continues to run smoothly in the meantime and thank those who are providing temporary leadership and coverage.
Family Movie Nights – Mike and Caitlin Cormier will be coordinating the monthly Movie Nights. Thank you both for agreeing to look after this ministry.
Camp – Camp registrations are full for the 4 weeks in July. Sydney Watson-Leung has been hired as the Summer Day Camp Director from May to September. She will be coordinating the hiring of the 4 camp managers, providing the training of the managers, counsellors and volunteers, running the day-to-day operation of the camp and supervising the managers and volunteers. We are excited to have Sydney in this role, she brings a multitude of gifts and knowledge of the NUC camp experience.
Youth Programming
Jr. Youth Group –This group meets once a month on the second Friday of the month Angela Scullion and Daryl Foote have volunteered until May. We are looking for 2 individuals to continue this ministry. The group does not meet during the summer; therefore, it would be for the June meeting and then starting in September.
Teen Leadership – this group meets once a month, unless they have a special event coming up. Rev. Heather and Jennifer Stinson, Chair of Worship, are currently supporting this group’s efforts to plan a youth service in May. If you have a heart for working with teens, helping them reach out and help the local community, and more, please contact Helga Kennedy.
Prism Youth Group – this is a group that uses our space and does not require a lead person from us as it is organized by an outside group. It is supported by volunteers from Norval’s Affirming Ministry Team.
Outreach
Stone Soup – Will continue as previously. Elaine VanDoorn has stepped up to coordinate the gathering of ingredients, along with the other regular volunteers. This program will continue to provide soup to our community.
Outreach Team – Elaine VanDoorn and Holly Develter have agreed to co-chair the Outreach Team. Thank you both for taking on this important role.
