Faith Formation Team

We are seeking volunteers to join the newly formed Faith Formation Team. Team members will start immediately and will be ratified at the next congregational meeting. Questions can be directed to the Executive Committee. 

The Faith Formation Team is dedicated to nurturing the spiritual growth of our online and in-person communities and facilitates the development and implementation of programs that help people grow deeper in their understanding of God’s love and teachings.
Mandate:

– Work under the direction of ministry personnel, and in collaborate with other groups/teams within the church, to develop a cohesive and integrated Faith Formation program that supports the shared vision and mission of the church.

– Provide direction to the Youth and Young Families Ministry and NUC’s Summer Camp.

– Ensure United Church ‘Duty of Care’ policies and procedures are followed in all children, youth, and teen programming, including summer camp.

– Recruit, support, and train volunteer leaders to implement faith formation programming for all members of the faith community.

– Work under the direction of ministry personnel, and in collaborate with other groups/teams within the church, to facilitate the development and implementation of innovative programs that inspire curiosity and deepen faith, including Kids’ Church, youth programs, bible studies, book discussions, and adult small groups. 

– Assist in organizing special events, such as guest speakers, workshops, and family activities that engage members of all ages.

– Promote intergenerational opportunities and encourage mentorship among the community of faith.

– Monitor the effectiveness of programs, adapting them to meet the changing needs of the community of faith.

Team Composition: The Faith Formation Team will ideally be composed of at least five (5) individuals. If the team drops below five (5) members at any point in the Church year, the nomination committee will seek new team members as soon as possible, and new members will be ratified at the next congregational meeting.

Term Duration: Team members shall serve a term of two (2) years, commencing after the Annual General Meeting (inaugural team will have a start date of April 2025). Shorter terms are permitted when appropriate; for example, a young adult may wish to serve but not be available for two (2) years.

Reappointment Conditions: Upon completion of a 2-year term, team members are eligible to serve one (1) additional year. Team members are thus permitted to serve a maximum of three (3) contiguous years, after which time they are required to step off the team for a minimum of one (1) year before volunteering to serve for an additional term.
Continuity: In March of each year (starting March 2027 for inaugural team) ideally no more than (50%) fifty percent of the team will end their term, thus ensuring that the team does not begin a church year with more than (50%) fifty percent new members.
